Lubangwe Sanctuary: Unlocking eco-tourism potential through sustainable community development

Lubangwe Wildlife Sanctuary is unique as it combines conservation, Eco-tourism, and sustainable community development. Our mission is to protect and preserve Zimbabwe’s rich cultural and wildlife heritage while promoting sustainable tourism practices and supporting the Lubangwe community.
Set in the heart of the rural community of Lubangwe which boasts of 4 villages and at the boundary of Matetsi Safari Area, the location provides a unique opportunity for tourists to experience a mixture of day to day community lifestyle, local culture, wildlife, conservation and visits to the majestic Victoria Falls just 45 minutes drive away.
The sanctuary is not only a dream coming true, but also an opportunity for us to restore the rich natural habitat after years of destructive deforestation from charcoal production by our people. This indeed is a second change to develop sustainably and leave a legacy for future generations
David Shakiwa Ncube: Sanctuary Chairperson

“Conserve or Perish” :Reforestation Efforts
“Conserve or Perish” is a reality we face everyday, each passing day with a tree chopped is a major loss for not only the community, but the would at large.
The Community Sanctuary project is key to solving numerous problems faced by the community including ,unemployment, poverty, low rainfalls and marauding wildlife.
Today I am inviting you to help our community rebuild what was once thriving wildlife environment, that we destroyed due to lack of knowledge coupled with a pressing need to survive in this hush environment.
For the past years our community has relied on wildlife snaring and tree chopping for charcoal production, leaving behind a barren and desolate land.
Today we are still a poor community, charcoal has not made us rich, and all the animals snared have seen a dwindling population of wildlife…
We have learnt the errors of our ways and are now turning back to the environment we killed to ϐind a better way to survive… and there is only one way left for us CONSERVATION.
